Introducing the GC

Take your kayak
anywhere.

The Game-Changer (GC) is a hybrid hardshell-inflatable whitewater kayak that reversibly reconfigures into a backpack. Hard-boat performance on the water. True portability off it. Engineered from first principles in New Zealand.

Why the GC Hybrid?

Hardshell performance. Backpack reach. Multi-day cargo.

A composite shell forms a rigid exo-skeleton that drives modern hard-boat performance. A premium inflatable inner sits protected inside. The two come apart, pack down, and reconfigure into a backpack.

01 / Hybrid Performance

Hard-shell hull. Inflatable inner.

Composite hard-shell covering the hull, sidewalls and ends delivers the responsiveness of a modern whitewater boat, and provides protection and rigidity to a high-spec TPU inflatable inner built to premium packraft-grade standards.

02 / True Portability

It packs into a backpack.

Any river that can be hiked into is now in range.

  • Hike-in rivers — too long, too steep, too difficult, now unlocked.
  • Heli alternatives — South Island heli runs on your own legs.
  • First descents — the lines you've been sitting on.
  • Multi-disciplinary — climb, mountaineer, canyon, paddle.
03 / Variable Ballast

Dial in the ride before you put on.

Two compartments — front and rear — turn gear into ballast. Place it low for a planted feel, lateral for roll inertia, central for quick edging, forward for big-water trim, rear for easy boofing and quick turns. Dial it in before you put on.

04 / Cargo for Multi-Days

100+ L total cargo capacity.

TIZIP closures and an elastic packing system. Easy to pack, easy to access. Take the kitchen sink on your local overnighter, or specialist equipment for first descents or multi-disciplinary adventures. Anything you carry in, you can carry out.

05 / Outfitting

Hard coaming. Built-in bracing.

The cockpit feels like the one you know. A hard composite coaming runs your standard whitewater spray deck — no implosion, no deck explosions. Knee/thigh braces plus lateral knee armour are built in. Aggressive control. Real protection when things get rowdy.

06 / Safety By Design

Three independent inflated sections.

  • Redundancy — lose one section, stay afloat.
  • Resists pinning — buoyancy works for you even when you're not in the boat.
  • Resists wrapping — rigid shell holds shape against rocks.
07 / Safety In a Swim

Safer swims. Easier rescues.

  • ~70% total volume inflated — boat floats high and light, even with no-one in it.
  • Easier to corral — light enough to push or pull to the bank.
  • A buoy in a pinch — something to hold onto if the swim gets serious.
08 / NZ-Engineered Toughness

Basalt, Innegra, S-glass, carbon.

Basalt. Innegra. S-glass. Carbon. Select foam-core sandwich for added stiffness. Kevlar at high-risk impact zones. Stiff, strong, durable, impact-tolerant. A modern hull, engineered to feel like a monolithic one-piece kayak, executed in premium composite.

The Innovation

A new category of whitewater boat.

The GC pairs a modern composite shell — flatter planing surface, deeper chines and sharper edges than plastic moulding allows — with a premium inflatable inner. A patented interlocking system holds the two together as a single, stiff, high-performance kayak. Pull it apart and it becomes a backpack you can hike with.

The GC Model

Hardshell-inflatable hybrid. ~270 cm × 69 cm. 12–16 kg depending on spec. Built for 65–95 kg paddlers running up to hard whitewater.

NZ Engineered

Designed, tested and refined in the rivers it was built for. Modern hull thinking — executed in composite, not plastic.

2026 Production

A limited Mk6 prototype batch is the next step. Demand from this round determines the path to a V1 commercial build.
